Adult lending library

Visitors using the lending library of the Gödöllő Town Library and Information Centre may search among the books on the open shelves on their own or with the help of our librarians. Fiction books are arranged in alphabetical order, while books on academic subjects and general knowledge are grouped according to subject.

Poetry and drama books are kept on separate shelves. There are about 60 thousand volumes available in the lending library and new books are added continuously, readers can find out about our new additions from the library staff.

Our SZIKLA21computer catalogue is available to help you find the books you are looking for, it is accessible to readers on several computers in the building and is also accessible on the Internet. Only materials acquired before 31 December 2003 are registered in the traditional card catalogue.

Using the adult lending library

For the onsite use of the adult lending library you only need a free registration card, but in order to borrowing books you need a reader’s card. Readers with a valid reader’s card may borrow 6 volumes at a time, for a period of 4 weeks. The loan period may be extended on 2 occasions by telephone or on the Internet. Audio books may be borrowed for a period of 7 days, and you may borrow 2 audio books at a time. A late fee is charged for books not returned on time.

Audio books and tapes in the library

Since 2006 a number of novels have been available on CD for readers to borrow in the form of audio books. Nearly 70 works of literature, including serious and popular novels can be heard on these discs read out by popular artists. The audio books are available on CD, audiotape or in the form of MP3 files, in the lending library on the first floor, with a basic reader’s card.

Inter-library loans

We are able to borrow books or other materials that are not available in our library from other libraries. Generally we can have these delivered within 7-10 days. The inter-library loan service may only be used with a valid reader’s card, in person, after filling in an application form. Our library will obtain two books at a time for the same person. It is not possible to extend the borrowing period of inter-library books.

Old or rare publications cannot be borrowed, however, a duplicate copy may be requested.

In the case of books requested from the libraries of the National Document Supply System, postage must be paid for by the reader. These costs must be paid for on the basis of the currently valid table of postage fees (grams/HUF depending on the weight of the book). In the case of journal articles the photocopy costs are set by the supplying library. In this case too postage must be paid by the reader.
